ParticipantWhat is the difference between local computing and cloud or remote computing
Local computing is using computer resources you or the organization owns in house. On the other hand, remote computing is using computer resources of another business that has been paid to use temporarily to compute.
Why is remote hosting called cloud computing ?
Because it is in a way just like cloud comptuing which is to use another organizations computer resources to do computing related tasks.
Give some examples of cloud applications / software?
Google suite. It is literally cloud comptuing but for office related work. MS Office, it too now also offers the features to use the cloud for office taks like g suite. One drive is also a cloud application. Google drive is also a cloud application. Nextcloud is also a cloud application. Netflix is also a cloud application.
Software UpdatesWhat is the difference between a patch and a software release ?
A patch is a software update to fix a software bug. And a software release is the release of brand new software not a fix for a software issue.
What is the difference between manual and automatic updates?
manual updates are updates where the user must do them by them selves. Basically needs user interaction to update. Automatic updates on the other hand are updates that do not require user interaction to be done. Basiclaly doesn;t need user interaction to update.
What is end of life software?
software that has reached the end of its support lifecycle.
Create a company policy for Software Updates ( what you should and should not do )
-Save all work
-close all windows except the window relating to the software update
-intitiate the software update
-then get back to doing what work was being done
End User TrainingChoose 2 methods of delivering software training and compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages.
Self-Instruction
Pros:
-flexible
-little cost
-paced at user needsCons:
-people learn at different speeds
-individuals depend on materials available to learn which can be unreliable
-individual may themself be underliable to learn by themselfFormal Classes
Pros:
-extra help available
-likely to have latest materials
-is on a fixed schedule so all individuals are up to dateCons:
-not all users have the allocated time to go train
-cost a lot of money
-cost space in the business possible to trainData Loss

What are the dangers with this policy? Formulate a new fail-safe backup policy, money is no obstacle.
If before the week is finished for the back up to begin. And a system error occurs wiping all data. Then the data is lost. So, a better policy would be a onsite solution for powerschool that at the same time backs up data to the cloud repeatedly whenever data is manipulated, added or deleted. And backsup data to onsite storage facilities.
Will your new policy make data 100% safe?
Yes. Because there is now a onsite backup and offsite back up.August 31, 2021 at 9:06 am #6562Shiva Chandnani
ParticipantWhat is the difference between local computing and cloud or remote computing?
– Local computing is when your processes of running your software etc. are done locally/in-house. Cloud computing is when your running processes like software are accessed through the internet and is remote. Why is remote hosting called cloud computing?
– this is because when systems are hosted remotely they are accessed to users through a cloud or the internet.Give some examples of cloud applications/software?
– Facebook, YouTube, Netflix, Instagram, Google Docs, Gmail, etc.Software Updates
What is the difference between a patch and a software release?
– A software patch is an update used to fix problems and bugs in the system. A software release is generally when a new functionality of the software is released. What is the difference between manual and automatic updates?
– Manual updates the user has to access the update and allow the update to occur, whereas for automatic updates the update is done without asking the user and is done by the system itself. What is end-of-life software?
– it is software that will no longer be receiving updates and/or promoted by the developer anymore.Create a company policy for Software Updates ( what you should and should not do )
– only download software updates through the developer’s website.
– Do not update through emails sent to users.
– back-up data before updatingEnd-User Training
Choose 2 methods of delivering software training and compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages.
– Self-instruction:
Advantages: The quickest form of training and done personally. Also, this method can also be very cost-effective compared to the other methods.
Disadvantages: Requires users to be experienced computer users as they are more confident to start using an unfamiliar system alone to figure out how it works.– Personal training
Advantages: Training can be suited to user’s needs and abilities since there is a single instructor for the individual user.
Disadvantages: Time form of training is usually the most expensive type of training.Data Loss
Best Practice
The Power school application at Wells is hosted in-house. A weekly backup is taken, which is stored in the cloud.
What are the dangers of this policy? Formulate a new fail-safe backup policy, money is no obstacle.
– if there is a breach/hack or damage done to the system before the weekly backup is taken, all data from that week can be lost. An alternate system to ensure that data loss is taken to the minimum is to create a more frequent backup, which can be done every minute or every hour.
Will your new policy make data 100% safe?
– Data is never 100% safe and is always susceptible to data loss.August 31, 2021 at 7:29 pm #6563joshua7

– Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Docs, Youtube, Instagram, Microsoft office, etc.Software Updates
What is the difference between a patch and a software release?
– A patch is an update with a purpose to fix bugs or other issues within the system and a software release is usually when a completely new software with new functions is released.
What is the difference between manual and automatic updates?
– Manual updates require the user to physically update (usually by clicking the update button within settings), and automatic updates usually by itself without needing user approval.
What is end-of-life software?
– It’s software that will no longer be supported by its developer, meaning there would not be updates or patches.
Create a company policy for Software Updates ( what you should and should not do )
– Update reminders within the software, not by emails
– Ensure data is backed up before any major updates
– Make sure your device is plugged in so that it doesn’t drain the batteryEnd-User Training
Choose 2 methods of delivering software training and compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages.
– Remote/Online learning:
Advantages: Can be scheduled for an ideal time and can be done anywhere.
Disadvantages: Classes may be difficult to stay focused and it may also be expensive
– Formal classes
Advantages: There is a professional that can guide you through difficult challenges and someone you can ask when you are confused or have issues.
Disadvantages: It has a scheduled time and location which not all students can attend and could miss a few classes.Data Loss

What are the dangers of this policy? Formulate a new fail-safe backup policy, money is no obstacle.
– If there is a hack or damage to the system before the weekly backup, then all data from that week can be lost.
– An alternative system can be a daily backup to the cloud every few hours, and to ensure extra safety an external drive can be used to back up data alongside cloud backup.
Will your new policy make data 100% safe?
– Yes because it is being backed up into a cloud and a physical drive at the same time, if the cloud is breached and so is the system, the physical drive would have the backed up data.September 1, 2021 at 7:00 am #6564Sang
ParticipantWhat is the difference between local computing and cloud or remote computing

ParticipantWhat is the difference between local computing and cloud or remote computing?
Local computing is when your computing processes are done in-house. Remote computing is done through a computer on a server that is accessed through the internet.
Why is remote hosting called cloud computing ?
Remote hosting is called cloud computing because processing is conducted by another computer you don’t have access to. Then, the information is accessed from the server by the user.Give some examples of cloud applications / software?
Google Drive, Netflix, YoutubeSoftware Updates
What is the difference between a patch and a software release ?
A patch is used to fix bugs or minor errors within already existing features in the system while a software release may come with bug fixes along with major functionality changes. What is the difference between manual and automatic updates?
Manual updates are conducted by the user themselves while in automatic updates the system itself is responsible for updates and is done without the users command. What is end of life software?
End of life software is software no longer going to get updates or patches from the vendor.Create a company policy for Software Updates ( what you should and should not do )
Do not accept any links for downloading software updates from any source
When conducting manual upgrade ensure that the vendor is legitimate
Make sure all important files are backed up

Self instruction:
Advantages:
Reduced costs
Is flexible
Disadvantages:
Self-instruction may not be effective when user is completely new to the software.
May consume more time due to it relying on users self effortFormal classes:
Advantages:
Everyone learns at the same or similar pace
Opportunity for users to learn from someone who can provide professional guidance.
Disadvantages:
Increased costs as there is a need to hire a professional instructor.
May not always be suited for everyone due to different individual learning styles.

What are the dangers with this policy? Formulate a new fail-safe backup policy, money is no obstacle.
A data breach or loss before the weekly backup can result in permanent loss of data. A new fail-safe backup policy can be that data is stored both in house and in the cloud. The data is then backed-up alternatively to each storage medium twice a week. Will your new policy make data 100% safe?
No, as there is always a chance that a malfunction can occur.September 4, 2021 at 3:37 am #6570ArinN_
