Keymaster1) Identify two different types of file which, if compressed, could make use of a lossy compression algorithm.
2) Evaluate lossy compression and lossless compression when used to download files. [4]
3) Discuss two factors that would affect the decision to use either lossless or lossy compression when transferring across the Internet.

Participant1. JPEG and MP3. Most of the picture of google is in JPEG form, if the image is compressed, it might lose its quality and result in a lossy compression algorithm. Another type is MP3 which is compressing the sound. It discards unnecessary sound from the data and won’t be able to retrieve it again.
2. When downloading files, lossy compression compresses the file and reduces the quality of the file. In lossless compression, when downloading the file, the quality of the file remains the same.
3. If you use lossy compression, the quality of your file will reduce and some parts of it will be discarded. It is not recommended for text-type files because this will lead to inaccurate information. Lossless compression keeps the quality of your file and is used for text-type files because every part of the information will still be stored. However, if the changes are not visible, lossy compression can be used. - AuthorPosts
